Target group

The online workshop targets postdoctoral researchers.

Leadership is a fascinating, responsible, demanding task. Still today, early postdocs are often not well prepared for taking over leadership responsibility. This seminar provides you with important basics about leadership that will support you when stepping into this responsibility.

Single topics:

  • What makes good leadership?
  • Principles, tasks, and tools
  • Communicating a vision
  • Seven styles of leadership
  • Building and managing teams
  • The DISC personality type model - and how to apply it in leadership
  • Giving and receiving feedback - lauding and criticising
  • Supporting and motivating your team members
  • Delegating jobs
  • Making decisions
  • Managing conflict
  • Creating an environment that is supportive of mental health
  • Dealing with team members who face mental health issues
  • Discussing real cases and situations
  • Body language and wording - how to be perceived as a leader

At the end of the workshop, the participants will

  • have a clear understanding of what is important in leadership
  • know about different styles of leading and when to use which approach
  • know about personality types and how to lead accordingly

The course consists of a diverting mixture of trainer input, practical exercises, role play, and self-reflection. You will gain ideas about how to modify your leadership approach and behaviour. The online seminar is highly interactive with a lot of small group work.
