The links provided here lead to relevant institutions, departments, or officers at the University of Freiburg who deal with diversity in teaching and learning on different levels.

  • The Center for Teaching and Learning offers a wide range of services to promote the development of teaching skills and improve teaching (e.g. workshops, measures for teaching and curriculum development).

  • The Instructional Development Department deals with fundamental questions concerning further development of studying and teaching at the University of Freiburg. In addition, it runs the Running Mates project, an offer for students who are the first person in their family to start studying.

  • The E-learning Department of the IT Services has compiled a large number of instructions, tutorials, and discussion forums on digital teaching on the ILIAS learning platform.

  • The Family Services Office is committed to providing reliable structures for the compatibility of work and family for employees and doctoral candidates at the University of Freiburg. In addition, it provides information on childcare options and family-supporting framework conditions.

  • The Equal Opportunities Office and her consultants advocate for the interests of female scientists and students, and help to enforce equal opportunities at the University. The Equal Opportunity Office offers counseling in cases of sexual harassment and stalking, professionalization and networking.

  • The Teaching Information Portal provides a comprehensive overview of support, advice, and further training opportunities for teachers.

  • The International Office (IO) offers advice and support for international students and scientists, information about study opportunities abroad, and arranges stays around the world. In addition, the IO supports university-wide international strategy projects.

DiVers

The University of Cologne and RWTH Aachen University have jointly developed an e-learning tool for diversity-sensitive teaching, which is aimed at university teachers in all departments. The tool can be accessed here:

Non-affiliates of the two universities have to register on the learning platform ILIAS of the University of Cologne to use the tool. You can find instructions by clicking on "Das Tool" under the link above (currently only available in German).

 

Gender-equitable university teaching

The Université de Fribourg in Switzerland has developed an online tool for self-evaluation and continuing education for gender-equitable university teaching, which is also freely accessible to external parties.

The tool offers a wide range of selection options, e.g. on the topics of teaching content, communication, interaction, and assessment.

The statements, questions, and tips/suggestions listed can also be applied to other diversity dimensions in many cases. The tool can be accessed via the following link (currently only available in German and French):

Gender and diversity in teaching

At Freie Universität Berlin, a toolbox on gender and diversity in teaching has been developed for all university teaching staff. The toolbox contains introductory information, handy tips and suggestions, as well as a variety of further links on the topic of gender- and diversity-appropriate teaching.

Digital teaching and learning

The University of Göttingen has created a website with numerous tips and recommendations to help teachers implement their digital teaching in such a way that everyone involved can constructively work together and with as little discrimination as possible.

Inclusive Teaching

The University of Plymouth has compiled an extensive collection of materials on diversity-sensitive teaching ("Inclusive Teaching").
